Day 7: Catherine Palace (The Summer Palace)Head to Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo), stopping en route to see the Victory Monument, dedicated to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad. In Pushkin, tour stunning Catherine Palace (The Summer Palace), begun in 1717 and expanded in later years in the Baroque style. Its striking blue and white façade and lush gardens hint at the grandeur inside. View the palace’s interiors, including the meticulously restored Amber Room, the original of which, an 11-foot-square hall walled with amber, gilded mirrors and a mosaic of semiprecious stones, vanished in the wake of World War II. Discover the sights up close on a walking tour with a local guide to its historic walled center. See St. Nicholas Church and 13th-century Toompea Castle, now the Parliament House, and walk through the main Market Square. A shuttle is available to take you back to the ship throughout the day; late afternoon, chart a course to Riga, Latvia.

Day 9: Riga, A Mix of Old and NewGo ashore in fairy-tale Riga for a look at its history, past and present. Drive through New Town along a parade of Art Nouveau buildings, much of it the creation of Latvian architect Mikhail Eisenstein, and explore Riga Market. Old Town beckons with historic treasures that earned it designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk with us to Riga Castle, dating back to 1330 and today the official residence of the president of Latvia. See the 17th-century Swedish Gate, St. Peter’s Church, the medieval Three Brothers dwelling houses, and Herder Square. Return to Le Boreal for dinner and an evening cruising the Baltic Sea.
